Have You Seen?
Once while I was putzing around on facebook I ran across what initially looked like the Chief logo but, on second glance, was actually a depiction of Abe Lincoln on top of a gear-type motif, paying homage both to our history as Illinois Industrial College and our state's greatest statesman. I only saw it that one time and can't get google to cough up the image. If anyone has seen it, drop me a line. Personally, I think it and something like, oh, the "Honest Abes" be a better direction to go than the "Prairie Fire" idea I've heard kicked around as a possible replacement. (I've also heard Archpundit previously suggest the name "Railsplitters," which makes sense given our state's history as a rail hub, but myself I think that's too much like the Purdue Boilermakers in that they both deal with railroading.) Anyhow, rather than just be anti-Chief, one should have something good to replace our beleaguered mascot/symbol/whatever with.
