Did I Miss Something?
On the back burner for the past two years has been the proposed renovation of Assembly Hall, with the Illinois Student Senate recently coming out against transfering control of the facility to the DIA in order to fund it. What I want to know is why the building needs to be renovated in the first place. I've been there for convocation and for various cultural events and I've not noticed any major problems with the structure. The roof is sound, the place isn't falling apart, the seats are tolerably comfortable, and there are absolutely no obstructed views. Maybe there're some traffic flow or other problems that happen at the basketball games. If so, then maybe something needs to be done. However, since the structure's over 25 years old, I think those problems would've been made apparent earlier.
So, why does it need to be renovated, other than DIA wanting a shiny new toy for the basketball team to play in?
