old glory
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.
For the amount of time spent working past midnight, x (measured in hours), the amount of work done at any given time relative to doing it at a sane hour is expressed by 1/(2^x) and the amount of time necessary to do something is given by the reciprocal of this expression, namely 2^x. As a result:
For the first hour past midnight, no effect is observed.
For the second hour past midnight, things take twice as long to do as they would otherwise.
For the third hour past midnight (2-3am), things take four times as long to do.
For the fourth hour, things take eight times as long to do.
This trend continues until a) sleep is obtained, b) unhealthily large amounts of caffine are ingested, or c) death.
