Missing The Point
Even though he says he isn't, IlliniPundit is playing the "let's blame everything on the MTD" game in the wake of Sarah Channick's death. (Don't believe me? The title of the post is "Why does the MTD keep killing people?") While I realize that the MTD has engendered no love in the local conservative community through it's staunch defense of its right of emminent domain this past Summer, I don't think that merits placing the entirety of the blame for Sarah's death on the MTD. For one, as discussed ad nauseam here already, blame probably lies on both sides of the wheel. For two, the investigation into the incident hasn't been concluded yet, so we don't even know all the basic facts.
Oh, and for you students who think that the MTD is evil and out to get you: you're probably some of the idiots I've nearly schwinned while you were walking in the bike paths. Turn off your iPods, put your damn cell phones away, get a clue about your surroundings, and at least be intelligent about how you jaywalk. Yes, the MTD could do better and the University needs to do some rearrangement of crosswalks and the like, but not being stupid would go a long way towards keeping your brain from being splattered across the pavement. See if you can remember that past your next bout of binge drinking.
